InsurTech NY Event: Customer Engagement When it Matters
Ask anyone about their most challenging insurance experience with an insurance company. That experience will likely stem from a claim that they had to file. Individuals and small businesses are typically in their worst state during a claim.
Whether it is damage to their home or business, an automobile accident, or a lawsuit, claims should be when insurers shine. It is their opportunity to meet their brand promise and deliver on their “product offering.” Instead, many insurers focus on the burden of handling claims instead of honoring the opportunity to serve their policyholders in a difficult time.

Selling insurance should be simple. On its face, individuals and businesses have risk management needs and insurers address those needs. However, the insurance industry has one of the longest and most complex distribution value chains of any segment of financial services. From brokers that use multiple levels of wholesalers to embedded finance platforms that partner with InsurTechs distribution is more of an art than a science.
In the spirit of that art, we are bringing together informative content on distribution with artists in the insurance industry. Artists in the industry will put their work on display during the event. Panelists will discuss how to use creativity to access under or uninsured consumers.
Agenda Overview

Most investment in the InsurTech space has focused on distribution or efficiency improvements for carriers and brokers. The piece component to date has been policyholder services.
Insurers must answer the question, what can they do to improve the lives of their policyholders more than just risk transfer. That’s where InsurTech adjacencies come to fill the gap. HealthTech solutions have the potential to support policyholders’ health and wellness. And they can create true differentiation for Insurers. PropTech solutions have the potential to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and harden buildings against all perils.
If insurers and investors can diversify their theses beyond the core of InsurTech, they can transform the industry into one that is more proactive than reactive. Join us as we discuss investing in InsurTech adjacencies between founders and investors.
Note: This event will be in-person in San Francisco

From the animal world, ecosystems have always been recognized as the essential component to a balanced world. Plants, insects, predators, and prey must exist in equilibrium to thrive.
Ecosystems in business function in much the same way. Builders, homeowners, realtors, and mortgage brokers in the property ecosystem must find a balance for a healthy market. Ecosystems like property are innate in nature.
Now that the science of ecosystem and ecosystem management is more well known, savvy businesses are laying the groundwork for their own ecosystems like Salesforce and its App Exchange. However, not every player in an ecosystem needs to own the ecosystem to benefit. They can benefit from being an active participant.
Learn from a Senior Partner at BCG about the science of ecosystems and opportunities for insurers to lead or participate in ecosystems. Discuss with innovation leaders and insurance executives how to best leverage ecosystems. And, hear from InsurTechs that are building or supporting ecosystems.

Climate change has introduced a wave of new catastrophic events – wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, and even ice storms. Insurers are left to deal with the impact of frequency and severity of weather-related claims.
Combined with the strain on the system of an aging workforce, claims leaders have to think differently. They need to consider technology solutions to reduce the cycle time of claims and the time demand of their already stretched-thin workforce. Further, they need to work with loss control to harden covered properties and prevent more claims from happening.
Join us as we discuss the future of claims and resilience and how insurers should strategically position themselves.

2021 marked a major milestone for InsurTech investment. Venture investors placed more than $10B in bets on InsurTech startups, which now represents more than 10% of the FinTech pie. At the start of the trend, InsurTech represented only a tiny fraction of the FinTech pie, but now it is a meaningful piece.
At the same time, the number and diversity of players in InsurTech are expanding. In the last 7 years, more than 10 VC funds and 30 insurance carrier CVC funds formed dedicated units to InsurTech. Watching from the sidelines is no longer an option. Insurers must have a stake in the next wave of InsurTech investment to stay competitive.

Agents still represent over 53% of P&C insurance premiums and at least 87% of life insurance premiums (III). As the mature InsurTechs continue to gain market share, it is clear that they cannot ignore the agent channel. In fact, InsurTechs like Hippo and Bestow have dedicated agent programs.
In a world where InsurTechs work with agents and traditional carriers now have Direct-to-Consumer options growing in popularity, the concept of being a digital distributor is no longer about online portals. Insurers need to focus on agent productivity and truly differentiated products that embed insurance into the buying experience.
Join us as we discuss the future of digital distribution.
