Somil Jain is a Principal and Senior Consulting Actuary at Lewis & Ellis. Lewis & Ellis is an actuarial and insurance consulting firm. Somil is a credentialed actuary with more than 25 years in the insurance industry. He specializes in helping emerging MGAs and carriers build strong insurance products. His work covers pricing, reserving, loss ratio analysis, competitive analysis, and rate filings. He also helps companies find and secure risk capacity, in both admitted and E&S markets. Somil Jain spoke at the 2025 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “New Product in 90 Days Toolkit,” alongside Elliot Vernon, Pete Buccola, and JoAnne Artesani. He also joined a fireside chat on how to build a Life & Health MGA with Laura McDonald and Christy Lane.
Somil is a startup and insurtech veteran as well as a consultant. He co-founded Shuttlebee, an MGA and dispatch service for student transportation insurance. He was also a founding team member and chief actuary at Flora, a fertility-focused MGA. Earlier, he served as Chief Insurance Product Officer and Chief Actuary at Steadily.
His career includes senior roles at some of the industry’s biggest names. He was Chief Actuary and Head of Risk at Next Insurance. He also led risk at Blackboard Insurance. He spent nearly six years at Plymouth Rock Assurance, rising to Managing Director. Earlier, he held actuarial leadership roles at AIG, Travelers, and ISO.
Somil holds an MBA from The Wharton School, with a focus on direct-to-consumer marketing. He also earned a BS in Math and Computer Science from Rutgers University.
