Scot Barton is the Chief Product Officer at Carpe Data. Carpe Data provides next-generation data solutions to insurance companies. Its products draw on social media, online content, and other alternative data sources. Insurers use that data to sharpen underwriting, claims, and book assessment. Scot leads the company’s product vision, strategy, and execution. His expertise spans predictive modeling, machine learning, and advanced analytics. Scot Barton spoke at the 2024 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Improving Combined Ratios with 3rd Party Data,” moderated by Jason Gross, alongside Jeff Goldberg, Bryan Adams, Sebastien Bert, and Isaac Wash.
Before Carpe Data, Scot spent more than 11 years at Farmers Insurance. He served as Head of Commercial Insurance Advanced Analytics. There he led three analytics teams supporting all commercial lines. Earlier, he directed research and development for the business insurance division. He also managed claims advanced analytics, leading data scientists building predictive models.
Scot’s career has centered on turning data into practical insurance solutions. His work covers predictive modeling, text analytics, and geospatial analysis. Earlier, he worked as a consultant and project manager in business intelligence. He also served as a predictive modeling project manager at Valen Technologies. He began his career as an IT and business consultant at IBM.
Scot holds a BA in Economics and Psychology from Northwestern University.
