Steve Shaffer is the President and CEO of Homesteaders Life Company. Homesteaders Life is a leading provider of insurance for funeral pre-planning. The company helps families fund and plan end-of-life arrangements in advance. Steve has spent more than 30 years in the death care profession. He brings a strong background in finance, operations, and executive leadership. Steve Shaffer spoke at the 2025 InsurTech Spring Conference in the keynote session “The Next Gen Carrier Model,” alongside David Gritz, Jay Jackson, and Steve Dresner.
Steve joined Homesteaders Life as Chief Operating Officer in 2014. He became President and CEO in 2018. Under his leadership, the company has focused on growth and modernization. He has worked to keep Homesteaders a trusted partner for funeral professionals. His leadership blends deep industry knowledge with financial discipline.
Before Homesteaders, Steve co-founded Foundation Partners Group. There he helped build and grow a funeral services company, doubling its size in two years. Earlier, he served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Keystone Group Holdings. He spent 14 years there in senior financial leadership. He began his career as a manager at Ernst & Young.
Steve studied accounting at Indiana University Bloomington.
