Michael Scholl

Michael Scholl is the Chief Underwriting Officer at GreenieRe. GreenieRe is a reinsurance company focused on risks that support decarbonization. Michael leads its underwriting and actuarial strategy. His work builds capacity for renewables, green construction, clean transport, and climate resilience. He is known for disciplined, actuarially grounded underwriting. Michael Scholl spoke at the 2023 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Magic Formula for Digital MGA Insurer Partnerships,” alongside Randel Bennett, Kaenan Hertz, Dogan Kaleli, and Zach Lerner.

Before GreenieRe, Michael was Chief Pricing Actuary at Everspan Group. He helped build the specialty carrier from startup to more than $400 million in premium in under four years. He evaluated pricing on more than 800 MGA programs across all lines. He also ran the company’s quarterly program reviews and represented it at insurtech events.

Michael spent a year at AXA as SVP and Head of Casualty and Specialty Programs. There he built relationships with program administrators and developed program opportunities. Earlier, he was President of United Casualty and Surety Insurance Company. He grew that business from nine states to all fifty and expanded its surety product line.

Michael is a trained actuary and statistician. He earned a BA and BS from the University of Miami. He also holds an MS in Statistics from Purdue University. He also runs an actuarial and underwriting consultancy focused on the specialty program space.
