Tom Van Den Brulle

Tom Van Den Brulle is the Head of New and Green Tech Solutions at Munich Re. Munich Re is one of the world’s largest reinsurers. In this role, Tom focuses on emerging technologies and green tech solutions. He brings more than two decades of experience in reinsurance and innovation. Before this role, he served for eight years as Munich Re’s Global Head of Innovation. Tom Van Den Brulle spoke at the 2023 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Building a Strategy for Participation in Insurance Ecosystems,” alongside Martin Reeves, Basilios Manousogiannakis, Aviad Pinkovezky, and Tim Hardcastle.

As Global Head of Innovation, Tom led Munich Re’s innovation strategy across the enterprise. He also served as Chairman of the Board of InsurTech Hub Munich for more than five years. In that role, he helped build one of Europe’s leading insurtech ecosystems. His work has long connected established reinsurance with new technology and startups.

Tom has spent his career at Munich Re, spanning more than two decades. He began as a facultative casualty underwriter in Paris. He then held underwriting, strategy, and leadership roles in Munich and Milan. He served as CEO of Munich Re’s Milan office. He later led reinsurance for Munich Health.

Tom holds an MBA from ESCP Business School. He also completed a State Exam in Law at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. This mix of legal, business, and reinsurance expertise shapes his approach to innovation.
