Tanner Hackett is the CEO and Founder of Counterpart. Counterpart is a management and professional liability insurance provider for small businesses. It combines underwriting, broker support, risk mitigation, and claims expertise with advanced AI. Tanner founded the company in 2019 and has led it ever since. He is a repeat entrepreneur with a background in technology and e-commerce. Tanner Hackett spoke at the 2025 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Get Your Data Ready for AI,” moderated by Jason Gross, alongside Chris Luiz, Dan Bodnar, Girish Arora, and Kasey Roh.
Counterpart is built around what the company calls Agentic Insurance. The platform is designed for the brokers and small businesses they serve. It helps insureds reduce risk and grow with confidence. Under Tanner’s leadership, Counterpart has become a recognized management liability insurtech. It is backed by insurance leaders, technology experts, and experienced entrepreneurs.
Before Counterpart, Tanner co-founded Button, a mobile commerce technology company in New York. Earlier, he was Co-Founder and Managing Director at Rocket Internet. There he helped build Lazada, one of Southeast Asia’s largest e-commerce companies. He began his career as a management consultant at Booz & Company. He is also a Fellow of the Edmund Hillary Fellowship.
Tanner earned an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. He also completed an international exchange program at IESE Business School. He holds a BS in Business Administration from USC Marshall School of Business.
