Sophie Ruddock is the Chief Operating Officer at Empathy. Empathy supports families through loss, combining technology with human care. Sophie leads the company’s global operations. She is a strategic leader with 15 years of experience scaling organizations. Her focus is blending operational excellence with growth and meaningful impact. She is especially interested in how AI can create scalable, personalized experiences. Sophie Ruddock spoke at the 2025 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Bringing Tech to Ultimate Loss,” alongside Dean Lambert, Nick Gerhart, and Collin Bhojwani.
Before Empathy, Sophie spent seven years at Multiverse, the apprenticeship company. She helped grow it from an early-stage business into an international company valued at $1.7 billion. As Chief Operating Officer, she led global operations across roughly 600 team members. She improved gross margin and delivery capacity while pioneering the use of AI in customer experience. She also launched and scaled the company’s US business from zero.
Sophie has also served as interim Chief Operating Officer at Dynamo AI. There she helped founders build go-to-market, finance, and operations foundations. Earlier in her career, she worked in impact investing at Social Finance. She led the launch of the UK’s first social impact fund.
Sophie serves on the board of Spark Inside, a charity that delivers coaching programs in prisons. She is also a member of the Milken Institute’s Young Leaders Circle. She holds a BSc in Social and Political Science from the University of Bristol.
