Megan Protas is the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Chief Investment Officer at New York Life. New York Life is the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States. Megan supports the leadership of the company’s investment organization. She built her career at the intersection of insurance, venture investing, and strategy. She spent years helping the company engage with the insurtech startup ecosystem. Megan Protas spoke at a past InsurTech NY event in 2019, “Magic Formula for Proof of Concepts,” alongside Dawn LeBlanc, Zander Steele, Olek Shestakov, Victor Dan, Daren Moreira, and Brian Gilman.
Megan has spent more than nine years at New York Life. She joined New York Life Ventures, the company’s corporate venture and innovation arm. She rose from Senior Associate to Director and then Senior Director. In those roles she worked with insurtech startups and evaluated emerging technology.
Megan moved into her current Chief of Staff role in 2023. She now supports the Office of the Chief Investment Officer. That role gives her a broad view of the company’s investment strategy.
Before New York Life, Megan worked in investment management. She was an analyst at Alternative Investment Management. Earlier, she was an analyst at Willis Re, the reinsurance arm of Willis. That role gave her early exposure to reinsurance and risk.
Megan earned a BS in Finance from Fairfield University.
