Mark Smith is a global technology and operating executive with deep insurance experience. He specializes in enterprise strategy, digital transformation, and AI, big data, and analytics. He has served in numerous C-level roles across his career. These include CEO, CIO, COO, and Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer. He brings more than 30 years of experience in management consulting and insurance. Mark Smith spoke at the 2023 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Workflow Automation across the Value Chain – Tech + Humans,” alongside Kaenan Hertz, Roseanne Laudisio, Kristin Applegate, and Jake Sloan.
At the time of his InsurTech NY appearance, Mark was President of the Global Insurance Practice at OZ Consulting. He also served as Managing Director of OZ Ignite, an insurtech incubator. There he led insurance strategy, transformation, and innovation work.
Mark spent more than seven years at IBM. He served as a Vice President and Senior Partner. He led digital, big data, and analytics strategy for insurance clients. His clients included major carriers such as Chubb, Liberty Mutual, and GEICO. He also worked on IBM’s insurtech ventures in North America.
Earlier, Mark held senior roles across insurance and consulting. He was Chief Reengineering and Strategy Officer at Farmers Insurance. He was also Managing Partner for the North American insurance practice at Ernst & Young. He later worked for Zurich Financial Services on strategy and operations in the Americas.
Mark has studied at institutions including MIT, Kellogg, and Stanford. He serves on the corporate advisory board of AI 2030, focused on responsible AI.
