Brian McLoughlin is Partner and Co-Founder of MTech Capital, a venture capital firm focused on the insurtech and fintech sectors. At MTech, Brian invests in insurance and financial technology companies from startup to late stage. He has been a venture capitalist and angel investor since 2001. His firm’s portfolio spans companies such as Akur8, CyberCube, Embroker, INSHUR, Insurify, and Unqork. Brian spoke at our 2023 InsurTech Spring Conference on “Investing in the Next Gen Life & Benefits Solutions,” alongside Hanna Wu, Rhonda Marcucci, Josh Curry, and James Hettenbach.
Brian McLoughlin co-founded MTech Capital in 2017. He invests almost exclusively across insurtech and fintech. He also serves on the boards of several portfolio companies, including Voxel, OCHO, and Zuub. In addition, he holds board observer roles at companies such as Matic, Embroker, and INSHUR.
Brian’s investing career spans more than two decades. Before MTech, he served as a Venture Partner at FinTech Collective and a Special Advisor at Thayer Street Partners. Earlier, he spent more than 13 years as a Partner at Upfront Ventures. There, he invested across fintech, consumer, and SaaS companies. His past investments include TrueCar, Kyriba, SnapSheet, and The RealReal.
Before venture capital, Brian worked in finance and technology. He served as EVP and CFO of HomeSpace, an online mortgage and real estate company. Earlier, he was a Senior Vice President at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Brian holds an MBA from The Wharton School and a BA in Economics and English from Rutgers University.
