Sam Hodas

National Grid

Sam Hodas is the Vice President and Head of US Government Affairs at National Grid. National Grid is a major energy utility. In this role, Sam leads the company’s federal government affairs work. He brings deep experience in policy, government relations, and ESG strategy. His career has bridged financial services, energy, and public policy. Sam Hodas spoke at the 2024 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Being a Responsible ESG Player,” alongside Sokhiba Mukhitdinova, Meg Duty, Dean Lambert, and Bobbie Shrivastav.

Before National Grid, Sam served as Managing Director and Head of Enterprise ESG Strategy at Nuveen. Nuveen is the asset management arm of TIAA. He led ESG strategy across the enterprise. That work covered responsible investing, disclosure, and how ESG shapes financial decisions.

Sam spent more than eight years at TIAA before that. He served as a Senior Director in federal government relations. He represented the company’s interests on policy and regulation in Washington.

Sam began his career on Capitol Hill. He spent more than eight years working in the US Congress. That experience gave him a deep understanding of the policy process. It has shaped his work at the intersection of business, regulation, and public interest.

Sam studied at Franklin & Marshall College.
