Nick Scott is a re/insurance executive and Counsel at Troutman Pepper Locke. He is a performance-driven leader with a track record of building profitable startups in highly regulated environments. He is an expert in reinsurance and program (MGA) business. He also brings public-company legal and compliance experience. His deep expertise spans enterprise risk management, claims, corporate governance, and insurance M&A. Nick Scott spoke at the 2025 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Leveraging MGAs for R&D,” alongside Tarun Chopra, Josh Bjorkman, Richard James, and Nicole Perrault.
Nick has helped build two pioneering fronting carriers. He was a founding team member of Everspan Group, a hybrid fronting carrier that grew past $400 million. He served as its General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. He was also a Managing Director at Ambac Financial Group, Everspan’s parent. There he helped negotiate the acquisition of a London-based MGA platform.
Earlier, Nick was a Co-Founder and General Counsel of Spinnaker Insurance Company. Spinnaker was one of the first hybrid fronting carriers. He helped build institutional value there and led its non-financial risk management and strategy. He also led complex deals, including transferring catastrophe-exposed portfolios off the balance sheet.
Nick began his career in reinsurance. He was Vice President and counsel to the reinsurance and program operations at QBE North America. He was also a Reinsurance Manager at Beazley.
Nick earned a JD from St. John’s University School of Law. He also holds a BA in Philosophy from Boston College.
