Oka

Zach Kane is Senior Vice President of Growth at Oka, The Carbon Insurance Company, where he focuses on protecting against the complex risks of the global carbon markets. Oka de-risks carbon markets to support industry growth and climate action, offering carbon insurance solutions that protect investors, developers, and buyers against unforeseen risk while strengthening contract certainty and market integrity. Its underwriting operates through Oka Syndicate 1922, a Lloyd’s syndicate, and the company has been named to the INSURTECH100 and ESGFINTECH100. In his role, Zach works at the intersection of insurance, climate, and the transition to Net Zero. Zach spoke at a past InsurTech NY event.

Before Oka, Zach was Managing Director of Assurity Ventures, the venture capital arm of Assurity, a certified B-Corp insurance carrier, after first leading the group as Head of Assurity Ventures. There he vetted more than 1,500 early-stage startups for potential partnerships and investments, led the investment committee of C-suite executives, and chaired the Innovation and Technology committee for Assurity’s Board of Directors. He advised and backed insurtech and fintech founders, with investments spanning companies such as Covr Technologies, Stride Health, Matic Insurance, Pendella Technologies, and Salty.

Earlier, Zach spent nearly six years at the Arbor Day Foundation, one of the largest NGOs dedicated to restoring trees and forests, as Senior Manager of Corporate Partnerships. He built partnerships centered on nature-based carbon removal with corporations including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Capital One, Verizon, Marriott International, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble. He also served as Campaign Director for #TeamTrees, working with creators MrBeast and Mark Rober to raise $20 million in 55 days — at the time the largest fundraising initiative in YouTube history.

Zach holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, History, and International Relations from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
