Rick McCathron is the President and CEO of Hippo. Hippo is a technology-driven home insurance company. It uses modern technology to deliver a simpler, smarter, and more proactive approach to home insurance. Rick has led Hippo as CEO since 2022 and served as President before that. He has been on the company’s board since 2017. He brings 30 years of experience across the insurance industry. Rick McCathron spoke at the 2024 InsurTech Spring Conference in the keynote “Paving the Path to Profitability,” moderated by Jason Gross, alongside David Gritz, Alex Timm, and Jack Kudale.
Rick has spent his career in insurance leadership. Before Hippo, he was Founder and CEO of First Connect Insurance Services. Earlier, he served as President and CEO of Superior Access Insurance Services, an online insurance distributor. He also served as Chief Revenue Officer of Home Value Protection.
Rick began his career at Mercury Insurance. He spent 14 years there, rising to Vice President of the Western Region. That long tenure at a major auto insurer grounded his deep industry knowledge.
Rick is a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and a Certified Insurance Counselor. He serves on several boards, including Spinnaker Insurance Company and First Connect Insurance. He also advises several insurtech companies. He holds a BS in Finance from Oregon State University.
