Michael Stienstra is Chief Insurance Officer at Hippo, where he leads the company’s home insurance program with full P&L responsibility and oversight of Claims, Sales, Underwriting, Actuarial, and shared services. Known for his strategic vision and operational discipline, Michael has driven transformative growth and efficiency in both startup and legacy insurance environments.

Since joining Hippo in 2021, he has served in multiple leadership roles, including Chief Actuary, where he led enterprise-wide efforts in pricing, reserving, data science, and actuarial engineering. Under his guidance, Hippo has refined its data-driven approach to underwriting and expanded its product sophistication.

Prior to Hippo, Michael spent over a decade at Chubb, culminating in his role as Senior Vice President overseeing the actuarial team responsible for a $5.5B high-net-worth personal lines portfolio. His earlier roles at QBE, ACE, and Munich Re further reflect a deep commitment to innovation in underwriting, pricing, and risk strategy.

With a reputation for aligning analytics with business objectives, Michael Stienstra brings board-level communication skills and a track record of high-impact leadership.
