Martin Woll is the Chief Operating Officer of Group 1001. Group 1001 is an insurance and annuity holding company. Martin is an accomplished operator and strategist across insurance and investments. He has served as a COO, head of institutional savings, and head of strategy and analytics. He is known for building and transforming complex business operations. Martin Woll spoke at the 2023 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Predicting the Next Health Crisis to Impact Life Carriers,” alongside Scott Hawkins, Farron Blanc, and Anand Logani.
Before Group 1001, Martin was COO of Merit Life Insurance. He built a brand-new, A-minus rated life and annuity carrier from the ground up in eight months. He engaged vendors, hired a team, and built the full operating and technology model. That included the tech stack, compliance, and service center operations.
Martin spent more than a decade at Equitable, formerly AXA US. He served as COO of its largest division, the Individual Retirement organization. He led a data-driven transformation that boosted the wholesaling force from 7th to 3rd in the industry. Earlier, as Head of Institutional Savings, he launched the industry’s first insurance-backed escrow product. He also chaired the company’s joint innovation center with AllianceBernstein.
Martin began his career in investment banking and investment management. He worked at Houlihan Lokey and AllianceBernstein before joining AXA. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, graduating cum laude.
