Mark Gilman is the General Counsel and VP of Compliance at Theta Lake. Theta Lake is a leader in digital communications governance and archiving. Its platform provides compliance and risk detection for video, voice, chat, and email. Mark is a financial services regulatory and compliance leader with more than 18 years of experience. His work sits at the intersection of technology, law, compliance, and financial regulation. Mark Gilman spoke at a past InsurTech NY event in 2019, “Big Data, Analytics, and Enterprise Privacy.”
Mark has led legal and compliance at Theta Lake since 2019. His domain expertise includes data governance, AI oversight, electronic communications, cybersecurity, and privacy. He engages regularly with global financial services regulators on compliance modernization. He also negotiates enterprise SaaS agreements with Fortune 500 companies.
Before Theta Lake, Mark was General Counsel and VP of Compliance at OS33. Earlier, he spent nearly seven years at Morgan Stanley. He served as Executive Director and Global Head of Information Management Law. He began his legal career as an associate at Schiff Hardin.
Mark is also an educator. He served as an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law for nearly a decade. He is admitted to practice law in New York. He holds AIGP and CIPP privacy certifications.
Mark earned an LLB from the London School of Economics. He also holds a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania. He studied abroad at the University of Oxford.
