Derek Brigham is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Clearcover, a modern, technology-driven auto insurance company focused on providing smarter car insurance for today’s drivers. With more than 25 years of experience across insurance operations, product development, underwriting, and insurtech innovation, Brigham is recognized as a transformative leader in the auto insurance industry.
Before co-founding Clearcover, Brigham held several strategic leadership roles at American Family Insurance, where he led the integration of its first acquisition—Lumbermen’s Casualty Company—and built the underwriting and operations infrastructure for what is now Midvale Indemnity Company. His work there emphasized operational efficiency and scalable MGA platforms, laying the groundwork for his current success at Clearcover.
Earlier in his career, Brigham spent over two decades at CUNA Mutual Group, where he launched and managed a successful program division targeting underserved markets, including volunteer emergency services and financial institutions. He also helped pioneer web-based affiliate distribution models, integrating auto and homeowners insurance into credit union lending platforms—an early example of embedded insurance innovation.
Today, Derek Brigham also serves as a program mentor in the InsurTech NY MGA Lab, the first-of-its-kind accelerator dedicated to helping startups launch fully functional digital MGAs. He shares this role with other industry experts like Kaenan Hertz, Co-founder of Ahoy!, and Isaac Espinoza, Strategy & Reinsurance executive at Root Insurance. Together, they guide emerging founders in navigating distribution, compliance, reinsurance, and underwriting challenges.
Brigham holds a Bachelor of Business from Upper Iowa University and has earned the prestigious Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. His legacy of innovation and mentorship continues to influence the next generation of insurtech leaders.
