Brian Luther is President and CEO of Navy Mutual, a not-for-profit that provides life insurance and financial services to military families. At Navy Mutual, Brian leads an organization whose mission is to serve service members, veterans, and their families. He champions financial literacy and life insurance for the military community. He brings both military and financial leadership to the role. Brian spoke at our 2024 InsurTech Spring Conference in a TED-style talk on “Building Core Infrastructure that Lasts a Decade.”
Brian Luther became CEO of Navy Mutual in October 2020. Before that, he served as the organization’s Chief Strategy Officer. There, he helped develop, communicate, and execute corporate strategic initiatives. He joined Navy Mutual after a distinguished 30-year career in the U.S. Navy.
Brian served as a naval aviator and rose to senior command. He commanded the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and the amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa. He also led Carrier Strike Group 2. In the Pentagon, Brian held senior roles across the Joint Staff and Navy Secretariat. He ultimately served as Budget Officer for the Department of the Navy. That background pairs deep financial management experience with operational leadership.
Brian Luther holds a BS in Computational Mathematics from Marquette University and an MBA from George Mason University. He is also a Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant through The American College of Financial Services. For an insurtech audience, Brian brings a mission-driven leader’s perspective on life insurance, financial literacy, serving military families, and building insurance infrastructure that lasts.
