Bill Walrath is Managing Director of INSHUR/ABI US Insurance at INSHUR, a digital insurer for the on-demand economy. At INSHUR, Bill leads a $140M+ P&L across the US business. He owns operations, product, underwriting, actuarial, and reinsurance strategy. He works across both admitted and non-admitted markets. Bill has spoken at a past InsurTech NY event.
Bill Walrath has built a career across underwriting, distribution, and insurance innovation. At INSHUR, he launched two new programs in 60 days, including a usage-based collision product with DoorDash. He also launched “Ozzy,” an AI-based underwriting tool that runs 16 investigation checks in seconds. In addition, he built specialized platforms serving professional fleet owners across taxi, rideshare, and rental segments.
Before INSHUR, Bill served as Program and Reinsurance Manager at Buckle, an insurtech MGA. There, he led national MGA expansion and managed a $100M portfolio across key growth states. He also served as COO and Partner at MyLighthouse, where he launched a surety bond product to replace traditional security deposits. Earlier, Bill spent more than two decades at Farmers Insurance. He held a series of vice president and executive roles there, including head of sales operations and head of Southern California.
Bill Walrath holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Bowling Green State University. For an insurtech audience, Bill brings an operator’s perspective on on-demand insurance, AI-driven underwriting, reinsurance and capacity strategy, MGA program building, and scaling new insurance products.
