Anuj Gupta is Senior Research Consultant at Canada Life Reinsurance in Toronto, where he works across U.S. life mortality and longevity, underwriting research and development, strategic projects, and new market initiatives. With an MBBS, an MBA, and more than twelve years of experience across insurance, underwriting, operations, and research, Anuj brings a rare combination of clinical knowledge and business strategy to life and health insurance. At Canada Life Reinsurance, Anuj Gupta has held senior research roles for more than eight years. He currently serves as Senior Research Consultant, following his earlier role as Senior Underwriting Research Consultant. His work focuses on mortality risk selection, underwriting research, and the strategic use of medical and demographic insight in U.S. life reinsurance. Anuj’s background allows him to connect clinical evidence, product considerations, and underwriting decision-making in a way that is especially relevant as life insurers modernize risk selection.
Before joining Canada Life Reinsurance, Anuj served as Head of Underwriting at Care Insurance in India, where he led a team of fifteen underwriters and delivered profitability across retail and group health, critical illness, disability, credit protection indemnity, and living benefits products. Anuj also spearheaded strategic initiatives in underwriting knowledge management, tele-underwriting, paperless processing, automated underwriting, and workflow optimization.
Earlier in his career, Anuj Gupta worked at ICICI Lombard GIC as Manager, Product and Underwriting, contributing across the product life cycle, product development, business cases, sales training, and underwriting profitability. He also served as Manager, Medical Affairs at Sanofi Genzyme, where he worked in rare diseases, thyroid cancer, multiple sclerosis, product management, medical services, market creation, advisory boards, and physician education. His experience also includes strategic project and commercialization work at Stryker.
Anuj holds an MBA in International Business, Marketing and Finance from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, where he founded a student-industry interaction platform for pharma, healthcare, and insurance. He also holds an MBBS in Medicine and Surgery from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.
