After reaching a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, the world could breathe a sigh of relief.
Examining the series of events from a financial perspective, both sides appeared to maintain some sense of restraint. Both sides held back on using militarily dominant strategies.
The Strait of Hormuz remained open. Oil fields were untouched. And, ports were not extensively targeted.
During the war, insurance premiums increased the cost of doing business. Israeli 7-day marine shipping costs tripled. Iranian oil shipments increased $3 – $8 per barrel. These insurance-driven financial pressures incentivized a path to peace for both sides.
So, next time you write a policy, know that your industry is contributing to global financial pressure for peace.
