InsurTech Publications We Actually Read — And What Each One Is Good For

Eleven people, one question, and no consensus.

We asked our team one question: when you want to know what’s actually happening in insurance, what do you read?

The answers came from people who spend their days with founders, carriers, brokers and investors, so this is a working list rather than a highlight reel. Nobody named the same thing. One person doesn’t follow anything at all. We’ve sorted the results by the question each source answers.

What happened this week?

The daily and weekly signal

Who raised, who launched, which carrier moved, and what everyone will be talking about by lunch.

Daily insurance read

Coverager

C

Three people named Coverager independently. Vanessa Fajardo goes to it for funding news, product launches and carrier/startup moves. Ting Lin values how direct the coverage is, and how little of it reads like marketing. Tony Lew’s reason is more practical:

“It has interesting insights about the industry and they send emails daily, so it’s good to catch up even if I miss a few.” Tony Lew, Managing Director
Weekly catch-up

InsurTech Insights

ITI

Roi Hansraj calls this the quick-and-dirty end of his stack: a weekly format he can get through without turning it into a research project. Tarun Chopra and Ting Lin use it the same way — a pulse, not diligence.

When you’d rather someone else did the filtering

Bijon Mehta pulls dozens of financial-services stories into one organized roundup. Most of David Gritz’s regular reading is public markets and stock analysis, so for FinServ he’d rather someone else handled the volume.

VC lens on innovation

InsurTech Weekly

Sokhiba Mukhitdinova’s counterweight to the traditional trade press: insurance innovation through a venture-capital lens.

What does it actually mean?

Editorial, strategy and market intelligence

News tells you what happened. These are the sources the team reaches for when the question is what it changes.

Long-form editorial

Carrier Management

CM

Aaron Caton reads Carrier Management for the questions it asks about where the industry is heading, and for a willingness to push against the status quo that most trade press avoids.

“Some other publications are bland, but Carrier Management combines editorial with narrative to keep the content worth reading.” Aaron Caton, Innovation Program Manager
Market intelligence

Oxbow Partners

OP

Vanessa Fajardo’s pick for the layer between a headline and a decision: market intelligence, insurance strategy and open innovation.

Disclosure: the InsurTech Fund is working with Oxbow Partners on a research project examining InsurTech M&A.

Broker & commercial market

Leader’s Edge

LE

Tarun Chopra reads the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers’ publication for the broker and commercial side of the market — a view InsurTech-native coverage tends to miss.

Is the thesis actually true?

Funding, M&A and company research

Not morning-coffee reading. This is where a thesis meets the data.

Quarterly market data

CB Insights: State of InsurTech

CB

Vanessa Fajardo’s go-to for the quarterly picture: funding totals, deal count and M&A. Roi Hansraj uses it to validate a company, a funding history or a vendor shortlist. Both treat it as a check rather than a habit.

Company-level detail

Dealroom

Roi Hansraj uses it to get past an investor-only view into company-level detail.

Isaac Espinoza’s pick for sector trends and deal activity, with the insurance specificity general venture data misses.

Transactions & deal activity

FT Partners InsurTech Reports

Also Isaac’s: a transaction-first view — financing rounds, M&A, and who is buying whom.

One gap this list won’t fill

None of these will tell you when applications open

Every publication above covers the industry. Ours covers what we’re seeing inside it — notes from our team, our events and our partners’, and program announcements: Startup Competition, MGA Lab, Match.

What’s happening outside the US?

Regional and global sources

One advantage of an international team: the list doesn’t stop at the US market.

Vanessa Fajardo follows Hugues Bertin for reports and running commentary on the Latin American ecosystem — a region she thinks the global insurance press underserves.

UK general insurance

Insurance POST

Sokhiba Mukhitdinova’s first stop for UK general insurance.

UK market

Insurance Times

The other half of Sokhiba’s UK coverage — read alongside POST, not instead of it.

Global InsurTech

InsurTech Analyst

Sokhiba’s wider-scope InsurTech read, covering ground the UK trade press doesn’t reach.

Asia-Pacific & beyond

InsurTech Digital

Roi Hansraj’s read outside the usual US and European orbit, especially for Asian market developments.

Tyrel McAllister’s pick for the mix — articles, interviews and short features from several corners of the industry.

Beyond insurance

Financial Times & The Economist

When the question is bigger than insurance, Sokhiba goes here for the economic and political weather around the market.

Somil Jain
One more answer

Somil Jain

Somil doesn’t follow anything on a schedule. He scans insurance and InsurTech outlets, reinsurer updates, automotive reports and actuarial newsletters, and stops when a subject surfaces — usually MGAs launching products, securing capacity, or new entrants.

A reading list should be useful, not definitive

No single source covers insurance well enough on its own. That’s why eleven people gave us eleven different answers.

So the question worth asking probably isn’t which publication is best. It’s what you’re trying to understand this week.

This list is incomplete. Some of the best work comes from small newsletters and independent analysts that deserve a wider audience — if we’ve missed one you rely on, tell us.

Recommendations reflect the personal reading habits of individual InsurTech NY and InsurTech Fund team members. Inclusion is editorial, not paid. Where we have a professional relationship with an organization mentioned, it is noted in the article.
