InsurTech NY News: Slide – The Return of the InsurTech IPO?
On May 23rd Slide filed an S-1 announcing its intention to go public.
Founded in 2021, Slide built a business to capture the mispriced homeowners’ business held by Florida’s Citizens Insurance, the state’s insurer of last resort. In just four years, the company scaled to over $1.3 billion in GWP, a feat previously limited to PE-backed insurance super connectors like Steven Caitlin of Convex.
The Slide Insurtech IPO breaks the drought of InsurTech IPOs since Digit’s IPO last year in India and the wave of US IPOs in 2021.
What’s more, traditional insurance companies (YB, AHL, and AII) make up 3% of the total companies that have gone public (excluding shells and SPACs) this year. This narrow opening in the IPO window means that VCs who missed the boat due to fear must consider InsurTech distributors; otherwise, they may miss out on the best deals ahead.
