Inside Demo Day 2025: 40 Startups, 3 VCs on a Power Panel, and the Unfiltered Truth About Fundraising
This month, 40 startups took the stage at our InsurTech NY Match Demo Day in New York. Six hours. Dozens of pitches. One clear message: the industry’s next wave of innovation is alive and well.
Before the first deck hit the screen, we opened with a look behind the curtain—a candid VC panel featuring investors from QBE, Allstate Ventures, and IA Capital Group—who didn’t mince words about what turns a pitch into a deal.
“We only invest when there’s a real partnership opportunity,” said Jay Novis from QBE Ventures , reminding founders that insurance corporate venture capital (CVC) isn’t about quick flips—it’s about strategic alignment.
Ravi Shah from IA Capital Group added that articulating the problem clearly and knowing where the company sits on its growth curve often matter more than traction alone: “The pitch has to show the inflection point. We need to know why now.”
And as Tarik Galijasevic from Allstate Strategic Ventures warned: credibility travels fast. “If you tell us there’s no competition, that’s a red flag. We’ve probably met three companies like yours this month. The difference is whether you understand your market and your numbers.”
Their advice echoed through the rest of the day, as startups—from underwriting automation to AI-powered brokers—pitched, connected, and redefined what partnership-ready means.
