InsurTech NY News: Uncovering Uncut Gems

All diamonds start as uncut gems. The precision, beauty, and symmetry lies inside, but it is not exposed until it is properly cut, shaped and polished.

Startups are the same way, tons of potential that is uncertain till they have been nurtured and shaped.

Each year we do our best to uncover the unpolished gems for the community through our early-stage startup competition. Only companies with less than $250K in revenue can compete.

Over the years, we have uncovered some gems including:

• Honeycomb insurance (fka Agilius): SME landlord MGA and 2020 winner. It went from unrecognized to now more than $100M in premium.

• Delos insurance: Wildfire MGA and 2021 winner. It went from an MGA seeking market validation to one of the leading underwriters depopulating the CA Fair Plan.

• Healthee: benefits and care navigation platform and 2022 winner. It went from a small team to over 100 people. Healhee has also raised more than $100M in venture capital.
