The insurance industry represents 7% of global GDP, yet compared to Banking (at 9%), insurers’ investment in technology is substantially under-indexed. The median bank spends 8% of revenue on technology, while insurers are in the single digits.
This investment trend is starting to change each year. Now that InsurTech VC investment represents 10% of the overall FinTech investment, capital and talent are being pulled into the sector. With over 80 Corporate Venture Capital units, insurers are the most prolific corporate investors with more dedicated CVCs to the segment than VCs.
Insurers investing in the space or considering investing in the space for strategic value should stay up on the trends to identify new opportunities.
