Marc Peliel

Humania

Marc Peliel is a seasoned insurance executive with more than 25 years of experience. He is the former Chief Executive Officer of Humania Assurance, a Canadian life and health insurer. He has led business re-engineering, start-ups, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. He is known for driving consistent year-over-year growth across national and international operations. He brings a strong finance and strategy foundation to his leadership. Marc Peliel spoke at the 2023 InsurTech Spring Conference on the panel “Growing the L&A Pie through Partnerships,” alongside Bruce Hentschel, Jeff Wasco, and John Albanese.

Marc spent more than seven years at Humania Assurance. He served as CEO from 2021 to 2024, having earlier been the company’s CFO. As CEO, he led a national insurer with over 225 staff and more than $200 million in annual revenue. He drove new partnerships and an insurance-as-a-service strategy. He nearly doubled annual sales and grew the company’s capital significantly. He also modernized its technology, launching a claims machine learning model.

Before Humania, Marc held senior finance roles across the insurance industry. He was Vice President of Financial Planning at OMERS, a major pension fund. Earlier, he was Vice President of Finance and Corporate Affairs at both RSA and The Co-operators in Quebec. He also worked at TD in claims financial management.

Marc holds a BSc in Actuarial Mathematics and a business degree in management accounting, both from UQAM. He has completed executive education at MIT Sloan and the Institute of Corporate Directors.
