Robert Hamlin is a Principal in Private Capital at the Cleveland Clinic. He helps manage the health system’s private market investments. He is an investor with deep experience in fintech and financial services venture capital. His career spans venture investing, development finance, and investment banking. He has backed and advised innovative financial services companies around the world. Robert spoke at a past InsurTechNY event.
Before Cleveland Clinic, Robert served as an Investment Director in the CHIPS Investment Office at the US Department of Commerce. There he worked on the federal program supporting the semiconductor industry. Earlier, he was a Principal at Portage. Portage is an early-stage investor focused on innovative global financial services companies. There he backed the next generation of fintech and insurtech businesses.
Robert also spent several years at the International Finance Corporation. He worked in its global fintech investment group, one of the largest emerging-market fintech investors. He was selected for the IFC’s highly competitive Young Professionals Program. Earlier, he worked in infrastructure and natural resources investing there.
Robert began his career in finance. He was an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs. He later worked as an investment banking associate at Marlin & Associates, a technology-focused advisory firm.
Robert earned an AB in Social Studies, Cum Laude, from Harvard University. He also holds an MBA from The Wharton School.
